Teaching writing was always one of my trickiest jobs as a teacher. As a kid, I enjoyed putting pen to paper (and still do!), but realize this isn’t the case for many students. Because of this, I began looking for ways to engage my reluctant writers.
Knowing the hardest part of writing is often just getting started, I created this 10 page booklet of Would You Rather questions. Students love to choose their side and explain their thinking! They are able to voice their opinion, be silly, and are challenged to give real reasons to support these ridiculous questions. The best part just may be the spirited conversations your class can have when they share their thinking!
Sample Questions:
- Would you rather have fingers for toes or toes for fingers?
- Would you rather play on a sandy beach or in piles of snow?
- Would you rather raft down a river or jump out of an airplane?
- Would you rather have an eyelash in your eye or a hair in your mouth?
- Would you rather eat ice cream with ant sprinkles or eat chocolate dipped beetles?
