This Places Bundle includes the Fact Fan projects that will help you in teaching geography and research to your students this year! Students are engaged as they note-take, color, cut, and produce the finished project!
Included are:
- Planet Fact Fans – This STEAM project guides students through their research of the planets, sun, and moon and displays their learning in an attractive & surprising way! This project is ideal as an introduction to both research and the use of Fact Fans in the classroom. Teachers can begin by researching a 1-2 planets whole-group, before letting students try independently or in partners.
- Regions of the USA – Students will study the 5 Regions of the United States. They research the states, climate, and geographical features of the five regions of the United States: the West, Southwest, Midwest, South, and Northeast. This project works well as a group project because each member of the group can be assigned a region to research.
- State Report Fact Fans – These interactive Fact Fans are a fun twist to the classic state report! Students will use the provided note-taking sheets to research one of the fifty states. This is an engaging independent project because students can choose the state they want to research and work independently.
- Canadian Provinces and Territories – These fans guide students through a research project on Canada! They will determine the capitals and geographical features of each province and territory, as well as the year each region joined the Canadian Confederacy.
- Continents – Students research the 7 continents and display their learning on one of three fan versions. Included are a simple outline of each continent, a detailed continent with each country labeled, and a continent with country outlines for those wanting a challenge!
What are Fact Fans?
Fact Fans integrate reading, writing, and science/social studies topics, both saving time and engaging students. The Fact Fan project is ideal for practicing note-taking, introducing research, for center work, fast finishers, and independent projects.
For each topic, a list of Recommended Resources is provided to help guide teachers. Students can use the Recommended Resources to research and note-take on the provided sheets.
The Fact Fan process is simple!
- Students record their notes on the provided Note-taking Sheet.
- They edit their notes with the Student Editing Checklist.
- An answer key is provided so the information can be checked for accuracy before being published onto the fans.
- Students record their information, color and cut out the fan, and hole-punch at the bottom.
- A metal brad through the circles completes the project.
- Also included are a Cover Page and Resources Page for students to practice citing their sources.
